Jerkitude or Politeness? Whether To Let A Writer Know About Your Negative Review of Their Work

Ann Leckie wrote this tweet recently:

Hey, kids! @-ing a writer a link to your negative review of their work serves no purpose. Unless you mean to be annoying, of course.

I'd let someone know privately (if possible) at first, if I was going to rip into it.

However, I would include an @so-and-so in any tweets about it so that I could reach a larger audience, but I would also be polite about it.

Finally, that's what links are for. So you went over 140, you post the thesis/short idea and a link to the full thing. That's how twitter works for bloggers.
